💡 Answer to Trivia Question: In the Hawaiian language, "kona" means "leeward" — referring to the sheltered, dry western side of an island. Since there are two towns named "Kailua" in Hawai'i (one on O'ahu, one on the Big Island), the Big Island's version is called Kailua-Kona to specify that it's the leeward Kailua. And kailua itself means "two seas" or "two currents" — a reference to the two ocean currents that meet in Kailua Bay. |
